Summer TBR Wipeout Update

I can’t believe it’s already time to post the first update for the Summer TBR Wipeout challenge, hosted by Olivia at The Candid Cover! This month has zipped by, but, luckily, I’ve done decently well with working toward my challenge goal of reading ten books from my TBR list! [You can find my full challenge TBR list HERE.]

As you can see from my challenge TBR list, I chose to read mainly short-ish books and graphic novels throughout the summer wipeout. Thus far, I’ve completed three books and I’m working my way through the fourth!

The only book I foresee having an issue with is Caitlyn Jenner’s memoir, The Secrets of My Life: A History, not because of the content, but because it’s an audiobook – I always have trouble focusing and staying awake while listening! However, I LOVE celebrity memoirs and am really looking forward to reading Jenner’s, I just know it may be a struggle!

Anyhow, I’ve finished Ghosts by Raina Telgemeier, which I absolutely adored! [My review can be found HERE.] I also completed Moon Knight, Vol. 1: Lunatic by Jeff Lemire and The Clue in the Crossword Cipher by Carolyn Keene, about my favorite girl detective, Nancy Drew. I enjoyed both Lemire’s and Keene’s tales – I’m so proud of my picks for this challenge! LOL! 😀

I started Ellie Alexander’s A Batter of Life and Death, a sweet cozy mystery, yesterday and I’m making good progress on it – it’s fast-paced and fun! I’ve also listened to the introduction of Jenner’s memoir, so I’ve kind of started it too, although I haven’t continued listening to it yet.

So, I’m nearly halfway through my TBR list and with the challenge officially ending in a month, I’m pretty confident that I’ll actually finish this challenge, which will be a first for me! 😀

How are y’all doing with the Summer TBR Wipeout challenge? I hope you’re doing well and are happy with your picks! Drop me a line and let me know about your progress – I’d love to visit your update posts! Good luck to all on the rest of the readathon! I’ll be posting my next update during the week of July 29; hopefully, I’ll be well on my way to blowing out my TBR list by then!

Make Me Read It!

I’m still in the midst of one reading challenge and I’m already prepping for another one, the Make Me Read It Readathon, co-hosted by Val at The Innocent Smiley and Ely at Tea and Titles! This is the third annual round of the challenge; however, this will be my first time participating and I’m beyond excited!

Perhaps the coolest thing about this particular readathon is that participants choose X number of books, create a poll, and let others vote to determine the order in which their choices are to be read!

I’ve picked out seven books for y’all to help me decide between! I’d be SO very honored if you could take a minute to vote, regardless of your choice(s)! That’s right – you have the option of voting more than once! 😀

The Make Me Read It Readathon begins August 6 and will end on August 13, so there’s tons of time for y’all to vote and for me to get my ducks in a row, so to speak! Thanks in advance for your vote(s); I’m seriously looking forward to reading all of my picks, so any help is GREATLY appreciated! 😀

What books NEED to be read? 😀

Ms. Marvel, Vol. 4: Last Days by G. Willow Wilson
Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco
Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas
Anna & the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins
A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle
Beauty Queens by Libba Bray
Persuasion by Jane Austen

My Summer TBR List

As I mentioned in my original Summer TBR Wipeout post, I’m back with my list of books I plan (hope) to read throughout the challenge, which is hosted by The Candid Cover. I toyed with the idea of solely reading through my pile of graphic novels, but I’ve decided to mix it up a bit with choices ranging from audiobooks to paperbacks.

Hopefully, I’m not being overly ambitious with my list! I have a poor track record where reading challenges are concerned; I’m bad to give up on them or forget about them completely.

However, instead of pressuring myself too much and throwing in the towel regarding this challenge, I’m going to approach it in a casual manner. Fingers crossed, my not putting pressure on myself to read every single book on my list will inspire me to actually complete the challenge!

I’ve decided to include the page numbers of each tale, so as to help me rein in my typically failing over-achiever approach to challenges! 😀

The TBR List

Ghosts by Raina Telgemeier [graphic novel; 256 pages]

The Secrets of My Life: A History by Caitlyn Jenner

Creepy Susie and 13 Other Tales for Troubled Children by Angus Oblong [graphic novel; 176 pages]

The Glass Magician by Charlie N. Holmberg [paperback; 222 pages]

The Vision, Vol. 1: Little Worse Than a Man by Tom King [graphic novel; 136 pages]

Kristy’s Great Idea by Ann M. Martin and Raina Telgemeier [graphic novel; 192 pages]

Moon Knight, Vol. 1: Lunatic by Jeff Lemire [graphic novel; 120 pages]

Saga, Vol. 5 by Brian K. Vaughan [graphic novel; 152 pages]

A Batter of Life and Death by Ellie Alexander [paperback; 304 pages]

The Clue in the Crossword Cipher by Carolyn Keene [ebook; 202 pages]

Well, I ended up coming up with a whopping ten books to read starting today, July 1st; the challenge will end the week of August 13. Since I chose books in a variety of genres, although I notice I did go with quite a few graphic novels after all, I think with the lower page counts that I’ll actually be able to finish this challenge and truly wipe out at least a bit of my TBR list!

Good luck to everyone participating in the Summer TBR Wipeout challenge! If you stop by, please leave a link to your introduction post – if you’re participating – I’d love to follow along with you as you progress! 😀

Summer TBR Wipeout

Hey, y’all! I’m so excited to announce that I’m participating in the Summer TBR Wipeout challenge, hosted by The Candid Cover! One of the awesome things about this challenge is that you don’t have to be a blogger to join in – participate via Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, etc. – all you need to do is post updates on the social media platform through which you will be participating.

Books in any format count toward the challenge, which makes me very happy, as I have tons of backlist, Kindle, and Audible editions to blow through! 😀

So as to not stress too much, I’m certainly planning to read and/or listen to short stuff.

Here’s the challenge schedule for your reference!

P.S. I’m mainly posting the schedule here so I know what in the hell to do when! 😀

May 25- July 7: Sign-ups open!

Week of July 1: Introductory post- What books are you planning to read this summer?

Week of July 15: Update post #1- Tell us how your reading has been going so far. What books have you read? Were they enjoyable? What’s next on your TBR? Etc.

Week of July 29: Update post #2

Week of August 13: Wrap-up post- How did your summer reading go? Did you wipeout some books from your summer TBR?

Stay tuned for my reading list for the challenge, which will post on July 1st! Also, good luck to everyone participating and drop me a line if you’d like – I’d love to keep up with your progress as well! 😀

Bout of Books 19

Yay! I’m so excited that it’s time for Bout of Books again! I absolutely cannot believe this will be the 19th installment! This session begins Monday, May 8 and ends Sunday, May 14. In past Bout of Books challenges, I’ve never been successful in completing my TBR for the week; however, the challenge is so laid back, which is perfect for me.

I have decided to create a TBR list for this round, but I’m not going to be totally overambitious or necessarily hold myself to my list, as I am a mood reader. I figure I’ll add books I’ve been dying to read for a while now.

Following is the official challenge blurb:

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda Shofner and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, May 8th and runs through Sunday, May 14th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 19 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team

I’m *pledging* to read the following books next week:

There we go – there’s my modest Bout of Books 19 TBR list! I was tempted to add at least one more book to my list, but remembered that I want my goal to be attainable! To everyone else participating, good luck and have a blast!
